Carl Magnusson and co-designer Emanuela Frattini Magnusson have been awarded a 2016 GOOD DESIGN™ Award for their IVY umbrella stand, which is available at and distributed by Ameico, Inc. Architect Carl Magnusson began his career working for Ray and Charles Eames in Venice, CA and then worked for Knoll as Director of Design in Europe and North America. His design firm, CGM Design has received 22 design awards since its founding in 2005. Co-designer Emanuela Frattini Magnusson of EFM Designs is equally as lauded for her leading work at Knoll and her notable architectural projects, which includes a renovation of a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Rye, New York. She also serves on the Board of Operation Design, a nonprofit that promotes design education in schools. The IVY umbrella stand, originally designed in 1990, is now considered a classic American design. Visually unobtrusive and simple, the IVY umbrella stand is made of cast and extruded aluminum (75% pre-consumer and 100% post-consumer) and its bowl-shaped bottom acts as an elegant raindrop catcher. It is available at Ameico, Inc at www.ameico.com. The GOOD DESIGN™ Award, founded in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and former MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., remains the oldest, prestigious, and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide. The GOOD DESIGN™ award is organized and presented by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies whose belief it is to “create a revived awareness about contemporary design and to honor both products and industry leaders in design who have chartered new directions and pushed the envelope for contemporary products in the world marketplace.” The award ceremony will be January 27, 2017 in New York City.
